Fictional character biography

Kofi is an adolescent Kymellian. He is cousin to the deceased Aelfyre Whitemane ("Whitey"), the Kymellian responsible for giving the members of Power Pack their powers. His father, Lord Yrik, is the ambassador to Snarkworld. Kofi lost his mother when he was an infant: she died while she was protecting Kofi from an alien attack.[1] Kofi has a strained relationship with his father, and often finds himself rebelling against the rules and philosophies of his homeworld.[2]

Kofi first appears in Power Pack during the buildup to the Snark Wars. When Yrik is engaged in negotiations with the Snarks during the Emperor's extended illness, Kofi becomes furious that his father is more concerned with his ambassadorial work than his own son. When he subsequently learns that the High Snark Jakal is going to Earth to capture Power Pack, Kofi fears that his father will do nothing to prevent the kidnappings and intervenes himself. He steals his father's smartship, Datta, and flies to Earth to warn Power Pack. Datta is intercepted by the Snarks, suffers fatal damage, and crashes into the East River. Kofi manages to escape the scene with injuries and is able to locate the members of Power Pack and warn them about the impending attack. He assists them in their battle against Jakal and remains with them on Earth for a short period of time, before being returned to space with the smartship Friday.[3]

During the Snark Wars, Kofi is kidnapped and imprisoned, along with Power Pack and Yrik, by the Snark Queen Maraud. He is able to escape, and with the help of Franklin Richards and Friday, helps them defeat Maraud and return Emperor Bhadsha to power.[4] He escorts Power Pack back to Earth,[1] On his way back to New Kymellia, Kofi encounters the Fantastic Four, searching for the missing Franklin, and directs them back to Earth.[5]

During Power Pack's subsequent trips to New Kymellia, Kofi has acted as their first point of contact. He has returned to Earth several times to seek the Pack's assistance is conflicts with the Snarks and remains a trusted friend, referring to the members of Power Pack as his "cousins".[6][7][8]

Powers and abilities

Kofi is a Kymellian that has the ability to teleport. Early on, he believes himself to be "backwards and stupid"[9] and lacks confidence in his abilities. However, through encouragement and necessity, he eventually learns to believe in himself. Initially, Kofi is only able to teleport himself short distances; however, as the series progresses, he gains enough skill to transport one or two other individuals along with himself.[9] He also improves his ability to travel long distances and through different astral spaces, going so far as to teleport in and out of the Darkforce Dimension to successfully rescue his father.[1][10]
